What’s the safest way to update the drivers on my HP PC?

I'm fairly comfortable using PCs, but I'm confused about updating the drivers on my HP computer. The Intel automatic updater didn't open properly, and the driver downloads on Intel's website are difficult to identify. My graphics are integrated rather than a separate graphics card, and I'm also experiencing low FPS in some games. Should I install the driver updates listed under Windows Update's Optional updates, and is there anything else I should use?

Since this is an HP system, start with HP’s support page or the HP Support Assistant app. Enter the exact model number and install the recommended driver updates from HP. Laptop and integrated-graphics systems often use customized drivers, so the manufacturer’s package is usually safer than choosing a random Intel download.

The graphics shown are integrated graphics, so there isn’t a separate graphics-card driver to install. The graphics driver normally comes with the processor or system driver. Windows Update can handle the basics, and you can check Settings → Windows Update → Advanced options → Optional updates for additional device drivers.

You can install the optional driver updates if they are listed for your hardware, but don’t expect them to transform gaming performance. Integrated graphics and an entry-level HP computer may simply struggle with newer games. Lowering resolution and graphics quality, closing background apps, and checking that the game is using the correct power mode may help more than a driver update.
