What’s the safest way to wipe a Crucial MX500 SSD before selling it?

I'm planning to sell my Crucial MX500 SATA SSD and want to make sure all of my personal data is removed first. What tool or method should I use to securely erase the drive? I'd also like to know whether the process removes existing EFI and recovery partitions, and whether the drive will still be usable after the buyer reformats it.

As a fallback, you can remove the partitions and use the operating system’s drive-optimization tools, but a proper SSD Secure Erase is preferable. Normal file deletion or repeated overwriting isn’t the best approach for solid-state storage.

Use an SSD-specific Secure Erase tool. It’s designed to reset the flash storage properly rather than repeatedly overwriting it, and it should remove the existing partitions, including the EFI system and recovery partitions. The MX500 can then be initialized and formatted normally by the next owner.

Many relatively recent motherboard BIOS/UEFI menus include a built-in Secure Erase option. If your system offers it, that’s a convenient choice for the MX500. Make sure you select the correct drive, since the operation is permanent.
