I'm currently in school and can't afford to buy a laptop right now. My current laptop suddenly stopped working, so I'm looking for ideas on where to find a functional used or older laptop from someone who no longer needs it. Free options would be especially helpful, but I'm also open to very inexpensive listings.

Facebook Marketplace can be a good place to look, especially for people selling older laptops after upgrading. Search for inexpensive listings and explain honestly that you’re a student who needs one for school. Some people may be willing to offer a laptop cheaply or give one away.
Post a wanted ad in local classified listings or neighborhood groups saying that you’re looking for a working laptop. Neighbors sometimes have older devices sitting unused and may be willing to give them away if they know it will help a student.
Check local Craigslist-style classified sites under computer listings, including the free section. Auction and resale sites such as eBay are another option, but compare the total cost, seller reputation, shipping, and the laptop’s condition before buying.
