I'm troubleshooting errors on an HPE 1/8 G2 tape autoloader, and upgrading the firmware to version 6.2 was suggested as a possible fix. I don't currently have an HPE support contract, so I'm trying to find out whether there's a legitimate way to obtain the firmware or another recommended upgrade path.

A support contract is usually the normal route for obtaining this update, even if the hardware is older. Before pursuing the upgrade, confirm the autoloader model, installed tape-drive type, current firmware, and the exact error codes; the issue may be with the drive, media, or robotics rather than the loader firmware.
HPE may restrict older autoloader firmware downloads to customers with an active support entitlement. Your best option is to contact HPE or an authorized reseller and ask whether they can provide the correct package for your exact drive and loader configuration. Avoid firmware from unofficial sources, since using the wrong image could leave the unit unusable.
I don't currently have a way to purchase support, so I was hoping there might be another official source or an older download available.
