I'm choosing between two positions: a full-stack developer role using Spring Boot and React at a smaller company, or an SDET position focused on network visibility testing and security at Keysight. My long-term goal is to move into DevOps, so which role would give me the stronger foundation and better opportunities to transition?

The SDET role probably puts you closer to DevOps, especially if you’ll be working with test infrastructure, CI pipelines, automated validation, and deployment processes. Those areas overlap substantially with day-to-day DevOps work.
It really depends on the actual responsibilities rather than the job title. The full-stack role could be the better choice if you’ll work with Docker, cloud platforms, infrastructure, releases, and CI/CD. On the other hand, a development position focused only on building features may not provide much operations experience. Ask both companies what tools and projects you’d be using before deciding.
Neither position automatically leads to DevOps. You’ll need to deliberately build experience with Linux, networking, cloud services, infrastructure as code, containers, monitoring, and CI/CD. Choose the role that gives you the most hands-on access to those areas and opportunities to collaborate with infrastructure or platform teams.
