I'm planning a gaming PC mainly for competitive games at low settings, with occasional AAA titles. My current options are: Option 1: Intel Core i5-12400F, GeForce RTX 5070 12GB, and 16GB DDR4; Option 2: AMD Ryzen 5 9600X, GeForce RTX 5060 8GB, and 16GB DDR5; Option 3: Intel Core i5-14400F, GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB, and 16GB DDR5. All three systems are within my budget. Which combination offers the best performance, and how much should I worry about VRAM in competitive and AAA games?

Option 2 is the most balanced choice for competitive gaming. The Ryzen 5 9600X is a strong gaming CPU, and the RTX 5060 should handle esports titles easily. Its 8GB of VRAM may require lower textures or other reduced settings in some newer AAA games, but it generally won’t be a major issue for competitive games. If your budget allows, a stronger gaming-focused CPU such as the Ryzen 7 7800X3D or 9800X3D could be worth considering, but the 9600X is already capable.
Option 3 is difficult to justify because the extra money gets you a weaker graphics card than Option 1, while the 16GB of VRAM on the 5060 Ti does not make up for the large performance gap compared with an RTX 5070. It would make more sense to pair the Ryzen 5 9600X with an RTX 5060 Ti 16GB or RTX 5070 if pricing is reasonable.
Would it make sense to choose Option 2 now and upgrade the graphics card later?
Since all three fit your budget, prioritize the graphics card unless you mainly play very high-refresh-rate competitive games. The RTX 5070 system should deliver the highest overall FPS and is the best option for demanding AAA games, even though DDR4 is used. Option 2 is a better balanced and newer platform, but the RTX 5060 is much slower. Also consider moving to 32GB of RAM eventually, since 16GB is becoming a tighter limit for modern games and multitasking.
