Which CPU makes the most sense for a 16GB 9060 XT at 1080p and possibly 1440p?

I'm choosing between the Ryzen 5 9600X, Ryzen 7 9700X, and Ryzen 7 7800X3D to pair with a 16GB 9060 XT. I'll mainly play at 1080p, but I may move to 1440p later. In my country, the 9600X costs about ₹66,000, while the 7800X3D is around ₹100,000—roughly 50% more. Is the extra cost for the 7800X3D worthwhile, or would the 9600X or 9700X be enough for this graphics card?

Your choice depends on the games, settings, refresh rate, and FPS target. For normal gaming, I’d choose the least expensive option that meets your needs. The 9700X is only worth considering if you also do heavier productivity work or want extra CPU cores.

A cheaper X3D chip, such as a 7600X3D if it’s available at a reasonable price, could be a good middle ground. Otherwise, the 9600X is the sensible pairing for this GPU, while the 7800X3D mainly helps with CPU-limited games, competitive FPS, and reducing frame-time stutter.

The 9600X should be more than enough for a 9060 XT, especially if you’re playing at 1440p later. All three CPUs will work well, but paying 50% more for the 7800X3D is poor value unless you specifically want the highest possible gaming performance or very high frame rates.

The 7800X3D can deliver better minimums and smoother performance in some games thanks to its extra cache, but that doesn’t automatically make it a good buy here. With a midrange graphics card, the difference may be small once you increase resolution or graphics settings, so putting the savings toward a stronger GPU could help more.
