I'm looking for the best all-around CPU for the money. I play games fairly often, but I also re-encode media for my Plex server—sometimes processing thousands of files continuously for more than a week. Between AMD and Intel, which specific processors offer the best overall price-to-performance for this kind of workload? I'm not loyal to either brand and mainly want the best value for a complete build.

For frequent, long-running video encoding, Intel is worth considering because its integrated graphics can provide Quick Sync hardware acceleration in applications that support it. A dedicated Intel Arc GPU could encode even faster, but that may not be ideal if you’ve had compatibility problems with certain games and prefer using CPU-based transcoding.
If you can shop at Micro Center, the Core Ultra 5 250K Plus and Core Ultra 7 270K Plus bundles are worth a close look because the included motherboard and memory can make the total platform cost very competitive. Without those bundles, compare current AMD and Intel CPU-and-platform deals carefully, since AMD bundles can sometimes offer better value depending on the sale.
