I'm trying to decide between the 9700X and the 7800X3D for my setup. I have a dual monitor arrangement with a 1080p 280Hz monitor for gaming and a 4K portrait display for reading manga and browsing. I mainly play competitive games like CS2, Dota 2, and occasionally some AAA titles. Currently, my GPU is a 9070XT, and I'm using an i5 12400 CPU. I've been experiencing some lag when gaming and streaming YouTube videos. The 9700X is cheaper by about $50, but I'm wondering if the performance of the 7800X3D might be worth the extra cost since I don't plan on changing my CPU for the next 4 to 5 years.

Definitely go with the 7800X3D! Its extra L3 cache provides a big advantage in competitive games, and since you have a high refresh rate monitor and a powerful GPU, it seems like the smart choice for your needs.

Thanks for the insight! I've seen videos suggesting the 9700X, which confused me. I just want to make sure I'm making the right choice since I won't change CPUs for a while.
