I'm looking to upgrade my PC, which currently has an RTX 2060 Super and an i7 8700. I'm considering either the AMD R5 7500F, which costs around $157, or the Intel i5 14600K, priced at about $219. My budget is tight, but I also want to ensure that I'm future-proofing my setup. Is the i5 14600K worth the extra cost, or is the R5 7500F sufficient?

Stick with the R5 7500F! It’s a solid choice and will keep you well equipped for the future. Plus, it has the potential for some nice upgrades down the line if you want to push your build even further later on.

Don't forget about other components like the motherboard and RAM. You'll need to consider how they pair with whichever CPU you choose. But if you're also upgrading those, I’d still lean towards the R5 for the AM5 benefits.

For sure, I'll also be upgrading those parts. Just need to nail down the CPU first!

The AMD R5 7500F is a great choice, especially since AM5 is where things are currently headed. While the Intel i5 14600K might perform better right now, it's built on an older socket, which limits future upgrades. The R5 7500F gives you more flexibility for future improvements. It's definitely solid for gaming with your new GPU.

So, you think the R5 7500F is the smarter long-term choice? I’m still trying to learn the differences.

Honestly, you should seriously think about going with AMD for a more future-proof setup. The Intel LGA1700 platform is already considered pretty much run-of-the-mill. The R5 7500F is on the rise, and it's more likely to offer better options down the line for upgrades.
