My PC is failing to reach the boot screen, and I'm wondering whether the CMOS backup battery could be the cause. If I need to replace it, is there a particular CR2032 brand I should choose?

For a motherboard, any reputable CR2032 battery should work. Energizer, Panasonic, Duracell, or a decent store brand are all fine, so you donโ€™t need to overthink the brand. Just make sure itโ€™s the correct CR2032 type and install it with the positive side facing up.

A dead CMOS battery usually causes the date and BIOS settings to reset; it normally wonโ€™t stop a modern PC from reaching BIOS or booting altogether. Since the computer isnโ€™t getting to the boot screen, check the motherboardโ€™s diagnostic lights or beep codes and troubleshoot the RAM, power connections, display cable, and other hardware first.
