Which GPU is the best choice for budget 1080p AAA gaming?

I'm putting together a budget gaming PC and want to play modern AAA games at 1080p. I'm considering used graphics cards with 8GB of VRAM, but I'm wondering whether it would be smarter to spend more on a 12GB or 16GB model so the system stays useful for several years. What cards offer the best value?

Current options such as the RTX 5060, especially a 16GB version, or a well-priced 16GB RX 9060 XT should handle 1080p AAA games comfortably. I’d avoid paying a premium for an 8GB card if a similarly priced higher-VRAM model is available.

If the pricing is good where you live, a 16GB RX 9060 XT would give you more breathing room for future games than most 8GB cards. The extra VRAM is useful if you plan to keep the GPU for a long time.

A used RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 4060 Ti, or RTX 3080 can all deliver strong 1080p performance. The 3080 is particularly fast, but its 10GB of VRAM, power consumption, and used-card condition are worth considering. For long-term value, a newer 12GB or 16GB card is generally the safer purchase.

For a lower-cost option, look at the RX 6600 or Intel Arc B580. The RX 6600 is fine for standard 1080p gaming, while the B580 offers more VRAM and may age better, assuming your system supports resizable BAR and the local price is competitive.

For a used card, an RX 6700 XT is a strong choice because it has 12GB of VRAM and plenty of performance for 1080p. A used RTX 2080 Ti can also perform well, but only buy one if the price is reasonable—many are listed far too high.

A regular RTX 2080 is still quite capable at 1080p, though it can struggle in some newer AAA games.
