I'm using a Ryzen 7 5700X3D with an RX 5500 XT 4GB and want a major graphics upgrade for games such as Cyberpunk 2077, GTA V, future GTA titles, and Battlefield 6. My budget is around โ‚ฌ400. I can buy a used RX 6800 for โ‚ฌ240 from someone I have a trustworthy connection to, although the seller also bought it used and I don't know its full history. New options include an RTX 4060 Ti 8GB for โ‚ฌ400, an RTX 5060 for โ‚ฌ390, and an RX 9060 XT 8GB for โ‚ฌ425. Should I take the cheaper used RX 6800, or is it safer and more sensible to buy a newer card?

Iโ€™d avoid spending nearly โ‚ฌ400 on an 8GB card for a new gaming build. Try to find a used 12GB or 16GB GPU around the โ‚ฌ300โ€“โ‚ฌ400 range, such as a 16GB RX 9060 XT if one is available locally. That would give you better long-term breathing room than the RTX 4060 Ti, RTX 5060, or an 8GB RX 9060 XT.

The RX 6800 is the strongest value here by a wide margin, especially at โ‚ฌ240. It has much more graphics performance and 16GB of VRAM, while the 8GB cards could become limiting in newer games. Before buying, run a proper stress test and check the core temperature, hotspot temperature, fan behavior, and whether the card crashes or shows artifacts. Since itโ€™s an older card, you may eventually need to replace the thermal paste or pads, so keep that possible maintenance in mind.

If the seller lets you test it properly, the RX 6800 is the sensible choice. Confirm that it can complete a demanding game or benchmark without crashes, excessive noise, or unusually high hotspot temperatures. Donโ€™t buy it solely because you trust the sellerโ€”verify the cardโ€™s condition in person first.
