I'm experiencing significant lag when playing Fallout VR on my Meta Quest 3, sometimes seeing the Steam VR background for 5-10 minutes every hour. The Oculus Debug Tool shows I've dropped around 500,000 frames in a couple of hours, with a frame rate averaging around 40. My current build includes a Ryzen 7 5800XT, and I'm considering upgrading my GPU to improve performance. I've heard that an RTX 5080 might cause bottlenecking with my CPU, so I'm looking for recommendations on a compatible GPU that will enhance my VR experience without needing to replace my motherboard, CPU, or RAM. My current setup includes an MSI GEFORCE RTX 4060, which feels insufficient for VR. I'm hoping for suggestions that would eliminate the red warnings on the ODT for my Quest 3 and alleviate the performance issues I'm facing.

Your CPU is actually pretty solid, but your current GPU isn’t the best for VR. Also, your RAM speed is on the slower side at 2666MHz; Ryzen CPUs perform better with faster RAM, ideally 3200MHz. The real kicker is your PSU, which at 500 watts is a little underwhelming. For a good upgrade, look at something like a 5070Ti or a 9070XT. These cards are capable, but keep in mind that they require at least a 750-watt PSU. You’ll want to upgrade that for solid performance!
Just a heads up, experiencing a GPU bottleneck is less of an issue than a CPU bottleneck. It really depends on the games you're playing. I had a 5070 with my Ryzen 5800XT, and I experienced some frame time issues. After upgrading to a better setup, I found my games running much smoother. For now, I’d say a 5070 or 9070 could work well for you, but remember to keep an eye on what's optimized for your game preferences!
You shouldn't stress too much over the bottlenecking. It's important to check how you're connecting your Quest 3 to your PC. If you're using a Wi-Fi option like Steam Link or Air Link, I recommend switching to a USB 3.2 Gen 2 cable for better performance. If you're already on a cable, consider getting that RTX 5080 after all!
It's on the cable. Thank you! Here’s a link with more info if you're interested: https://www.reddit.com/r/virtualreality/comments/1qlvx4v/new_to_vr_having_a_bad_experience_am_i_doing_it/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Thanks for the advice! I'm already looking at a higher watt PSU since PC Part Picker alerted me to that issue. I'll definitely check out those GPU options!
