Which GPU Upgrade Makes Sense With My 550W Power Supply?

My current system has a SilentiumPC Supremo M2 Gold 550W power supply, MSI B450-A PRO motherboard, Ryzen 7 5700X, GTX 1060 6GB, and 32GB of DDR4-3200 memory. I'm looking to replace the GTX 1060 with something that will last a while, but I'm concerned about the limits of my 550W PSU. I'm considering an Intel Arc B580 12GB for about $390/€342 or a Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB for roughly $649/€570. I'm not a particularly demanding gamer, but I'd still like a worthwhile upgrade with good performance and longevity. The B580 seems like the better value to me—would it be a sensible choice, or is the 9060 XT worth paying more for?

Between these two, I’d lean toward the AMD card if the extra cost is acceptable. It should offer stronger overall performance and likely has a more predictable long-term driver situation. Intel’s card is attractive for the price, but its results can vary more depending on the game and application.

Both cards should be usable with a 550W unit alongside a Ryzen 7 5700X, since the CPU is only rated around 65W. The 9060 XT can also be undervolted through AMD’s software if you want to reduce power draw. Still, make sure the PSU is genuinely in good condition; replacing an old or questionable unit with a decent 650W model would be a worthwhile safety upgrade.

The B580 is a reasonable value option and has generally been straightforward in games. Just make sure Resizable BAR is enabled, because Arc cards depend heavily on it. On this motherboard, update to a recent BIOS version and confirm that the necessary ReBAR settings are active. Some capture and streaming applications have had driver or codec quirks, although those may improve over time.

The best choice depends heavily on your games, resolution, and budget. If you play at 1080p and aren’t chasing maximum settings, the B580 should be a substantial upgrade from the GTX 1060 and may be all you need. Spending more on the 9060 XT makes more sense for higher resolutions, demanding games, or keeping the card for many years.
