I'm building a new gaming rig soon and currently had a standard 1080p IPS monitor. I'm considering upgrading my monitor, but I'm torn between 1440p and 4K OLED options. Is the increase in quality from 1440p to 4K worth the extra cost, which is about 50% more? Also, can the RX 9700 XT handle gaming at 4K effectively? I tend to play both solo and competitive games, and since this will be my one and only monitor, I'm curious if the sacrifice in FPS for better resolution is justified, especially with the RX 9700 XT. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If you're talking about the 9700 XT, I use mine for 4K gaming on a large OLED TV and it's fantastic. For a 27" monitor, the difference between 4K and 1440p might not be that dramatic, even though 4K is generally better. Just don’t expect a 50% jump in quality.
Just a heads up: 9700 XT can definitely handle 1440p on high settings, though it might struggle at Ultra settings with newer games. 4K is only truly viable when you enable Frame Generation or scale back to medium settings to keep the experience smooth.
I'd recommend going for the 1440p option. The RX 9700 XT struggles a bit with consistent 4K performance without additional tech like AI frame generation. You want smooth gameplay, right? If you're only getting 60FPS with stuttering, what's the point of 4K? 1440p OLED will give you a great experience without the drawbacks.
Honestly, I'd lean towards 1440p. I find that the higher FPS is more apparent than the resolution bump to 4K. The RX 9700 XT can run 4K, but you'll probably be looking at 60FPS and skipping ray tracing. I shared a review link from TechSpot if you want to check it out! It could help with your decision.
First, decide on your screen size. If you're leaning towards a 27" monitor, 1440p is the way to go. But for a 32", then 4K might be worth it. Just match the resolution to your preferences in screen size!

Yeah, I noticed the 4K benchmarks showed quite a bit of stuttering too! It was disheartening because I had some hope for 4K. Thanks for the advice!
