Which Linux distro would suit an older laptop for photo editing and WordPress development?

I have an older Dell laptop with 4 GB of RAM, integrated graphics, and 256 GB of storage. I want to use it for photo editing and WordPress web development. I'm new to Linux and would prefer something user-friendly where I can install most applications through a graphical app store instead of repeatedly using terminal commands. I've tried Linux Mint Cinnamon before but didn't like its appearance, while I prefer the look of Ubuntu. Which distribution would be a good fit for this hardware and these tasks?

Fedora with the GNOME desktop is worth trying. Its graphical software center makes installing and updating applications straightforward, and the interface is fairly close to the style you like. Just keep in mind that GNOME can be somewhat demanding on a system with only 4 GB of RAM.

The distro wonโt completely solve the performance issue. Photo editors need memory for the images themselves, so large files will become sluggish on both Windows and Linux with 4 GB of RAM. WordPress development should be relatively lightweight, but for serious photo work you may want to keep the original operating system available, especially if accurate color management matters to you.

Linux Mint with the MATE desktop may run more comfortably than Cinnamon on that laptop. It should handle WordPress development reasonably well, and GIMP can work for basic photo editing, but youโll probably need to avoid running too many programs at once. If the laptop has an extra memory slot, upgrading the RAM would make a bigger difference than changing distributions.

Before replacing anything, consider upgrading the laptopโs RAM if possible and using a lightweight desktop such as Xfce or MATE. You can install applications through graphical software managers on most mainstream distributions, so you wonโt have to use terminal commands for every program. Try a live USB first to check the graphics, Wi-Fi, and overall responsiveness.

QuietMarble63: Iโve used a similarly old laptop with 4 GB of RAM and Mint MATE, and GIMP was usable as long as I kept multitasking to a minimum. It wasnโt fast, but it was workable.
