I just bought an ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 and started setting up Windows, but I'm considering installing Linux instead, possibly alongside Windows. I'm looking for a reliable operating system that offers good battery life without giving up too much gaming performance. I'll also use the laptop for work, school, writing, browsing, and occasional light creative work. Are there any extra drivers, utilities, or settings I should install for this ASUS model, and is there anything important I should know before dual-booting?

CachyOS is another popular option for gaming performance and can work well on ASUS laptops. It’s Arch-based and rolling release, though, so it may require more maintenance than a stable distribution. The asusctl utility can also help manage ASUS-specific features such as performance profiles, fan behavior, and hardware controls.
If gaming is the main priority, Bazzite is worth considering. It aims to provide a fairly ready-to-use gaming setup with current drivers and useful defaults. Since you also care about school and work, test your most important applications and hardware before removing Windows completely.
If you dual-boot, the easiest arrangement is usually installing each operating system on its own drive. Before changing partitions, create a Windows recovery or installer USB so you can restore the original setup if something goes wrong. Also verify support for your specific G14 generation, especially the NVIDIA graphics, suspend behavior, Wi-Fi, and battery-management features.
For a balance between gaming and general use, you could also look at Nobara or PikaOS. They include gaming-focused tweaks and driver support, but any Linux gaming setup can involve occasional troubleshooting. Writing, browsing, office work, and light gaming should generally be fine, but check compatibility for specialized software such as video editors or music-production tools.

That sounds useful. Battery life is probably more important than maximum performance because I’ll also use the laptop for work and school.
