Which motherboard is the best choice for a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and three NVMe drives?

I'm upgrading to a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and can choose between the ASUS Prime X870-P WiFi, Gigabyte X870 Gaming WiFi 6, Gigabyte B850 AORUS Elite WiFi 7 Ice, and ASUS ROG Strix B650-A Gaming WiFi. They all cost €230 locally, so price is not a deciding factor. I currently have 32 GB of G.Skill Trident DDR5-6000 CL36 memory (2×16 GB, model F5-6000J3636F16G), an RTX 4080 Super, and three M.2 NVMe SSDs that I need to install. Which board offers the best overall setup while keeping the graphics card at PCIe x16 and avoiding any problematic lane sharing? I'd also like to know whether these boards are affected by the reported Ryzen 9000 CPU-damage issue, and whether that problem is limited to ASRock or has also affected ASUS, Gigabyte, and other manufacturers.

The ASUS Prime X870-P WiFi is probably the strongest choice from this list because it has good VRMs and four M.2 slots, giving you more storage flexibility later. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D does not require an especially extreme VRM design, so the slightly stronger power delivery on the B850 board is unlikely to make a practical difference. Check the motherboard manual before buying, but these boards should be able to run the RTX 4080 Super at x16 with three NVMe drives installed.

The Ryzen 9000 CPU-damage reports were mostly associated with early BIOS and firmware problems, and manufacturers issued updates to address them. A newly purchased board should normally ship with a corrected BIOS, but it is still worth checking the BIOS version and updating it before enabling EXPO or doing any tuning. The issue was not necessarily exclusive to one brand, so I would not choose purely based on avoiding ASRock; ASUS and Gigabyte systems should also use current firmware.

The Gigabyte B850 AORUS Elite WiFi 7 is also a reasonable pick, especially if you want its USB, audio, wireless, or operating-system compatibility features. One practical drawback is that the GPU slot placement can restrict very large CPU coolers, and the M.2 drives are covered by a shared heatsink rather than separate covers. Make sure your cooler fits and confirm the slot-sharing table in the manual. For three drives, compare exactly which M.2 slots remain active and what PCIe generation each one uses.

For a normal gaming system, there is not a major performance difference between the B850, B650, and X870 chipsets unless you specifically need features such as USB4, additional connectivity, or more expansion options. Since all four boards cost the same, I would favor the model with the M.2 layout and rear I/O you actually need. The Prime X870-P stands out mainly because of its fourth M.2 slot.
