I'm choosing between the ASRock X870 Pro-A WiFi and the Gigabyte B850 Gaming WiFi 6. Which one offers the better overall choice, and would either board be suitable if I plan to upgrade to a Ryzen 7 9800X3D later?

Neither board should automatically be ruled out for a high-end CPU, but it’s worth checking the specific VRM design, heatsinks, BIOS support, and CPU compatibility rather than judging only by the X870 or B850 chipset name. The B850 model may be perfectly capable, while the X870’s additional features could be unnecessary for a gaming-focused build.
The X870 technically has the stronger chipset and more features, but the B850 is already more than enough for most gaming systems. A lot of the extra X870 features may not matter unless you specifically need them. Since you’re planning to use a 9800X3D, I’d be cautious about choosing the ASRock board and would lean toward the Gigabyte option, assuming its power delivery, BIOS support, and cooling are suitable.
I do plan to get the 9800X3D, so would the Gigabyte board be the safer choice in that case?
Both boards can be viable for a high-end processor; the main concern is the ASRock board’s reported issues and whether you actually need the extra features offered by X870.
