I have an Intel i5 9400 CPU and recently found a few free motherboards that I want to check for compatibility. Here are the motherboards I'm considering: Asus Prime Z390-P, Asus Prime Z390-A, Aorus Z390 Xtreme, Aorus Z390 Master, Aorus Z390 Pro Wifi, Aorus Z390 Elite, MSI MPG Z490 Gaming Carbon Wifi, and MSI MAG Z490 Tomahawk. I'd love any information or tips on which one would be best for my setup!

The Z390 boards are a great match for your CPU. Z490 boards will not be compatible since they're meant for newer generations. As for Asus vs. Aorus, most folks feel Asus has a slight edge in build quality, but both brands are solid. It really comes down to your personal preference!
All the Z390 motherboards you listed will work perfectly with your Intel i5 9400 CPU. Just keep in mind that the Z490 boards are designed for 10th and 11th Gen Intel processors, so those won't be compatible.
