I'm looking for advice on which motherboard to buy under £200, specifically between the Gigabyte X870 Eagle WiFi7 and the ASUS TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi. My setup is intended for gaming and 4K video editing, primarily with content from my Canon 6D cameras, which I upscale from 1080p. Here are my specs:
- AMD Ryzen 5 9600x CPU
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8GB (with plans to upgrade to a 5070 or 9070XT in the future)
- 16GB RAM (2x8GB 4800MHz DDR5), with future upgrades in mind as prices drop
- 2 M.2 drives and a couple of SSDs.
The Gigabyte X870 is currently £180 on Amazon while the ASUS B850 is priced at £195. I usually prefer higher-end boards, but I've had great experiences with old ASUS TUF boards in previous builds and haven't faced any issues. Which one would you recommend?

Ever thought about the Gigabyte B850 Aours Elite WiFi7? It has some incredible specs, including three M.2 slots with great thermal management. Plus, it usually handles high drivers really well and offers good connectivity options.
The X870 is the way to go if you’re thinking about future-proofing your setup, especially with a newer graphics card down the line. The chipset support is solid. However, ASUS TUF boards are well-known for their stability, so you could feel safe going that route if that's what you lean toward.
I'd recommend the X870 Eagle; it's generally considered the better board. Plus, ASUS has had more issues with their AM5 boards than Gigabyte, so for reliability, it seems like an easy decision. It should support your future upgrades well too!
If you're also open to a B650E board, they generally come cheaper than the 800 series and still support PCIe 5.0 for your GPU, which is a win! Just make sure your BIOS is easily updatable.
You might want to check out this comparison list. While ASUS B850 has better audio and VRM, the X870 offers USB4 support, which might be essential for you. It's worth taking the time to weigh the features you're most interested in before you decide.
