Hey folks, I'm looking to format a PC that previously had Windows Vista, and I'm trying to decide between Debian 13 and Xubuntu. The PC has 8GB of RAM and a 500GB SSD. What do you think would be the best option?

I'd definitely go with Debian 13 using XFCE. It should run smoothly on your specs, plus it's known for being reliable and stable.

For performance and stability, I’d stick with Debian 13 XFCE or Linux Mint XFCE. Avoid Xubuntu because of the snap issues.

You can also try checking out the Distro Chooser tool online. It's not always spot on, but it can help you figure out the best OS for your needs.

If you're considering other options, I installed Linux Mint LMDE on an old laptop that had a 32-bit processor, and it worked like a charm. Just make sure to check if your PC actually has a 32-bit processor before deciding!

I've heard some concerns about Xubuntu being compromised recently. So, I'd suggest going for Debian with XFCE or even Linux Mint with XFCE instead.
