Which parts of my old gaming PC can I reuse for a modern WoW build?

I'm getting back into World of Warcraft and found an older gaming PC that has been unused for many years. I'd like to reuse whatever still makes sense, ideally keeping the Antec Three Hundred case, Cooler Master Hyper 212 cooler, and possibly some SSDs. The system currently has a Rosewill RG530-S12 power supply, an Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 motherboard, 8GB of DDR3-1600 memory, and an unknown CPU and graphics card. I assume the motherboard and DDR3 memory are too old for a modern upgrade, but can the case or cooler still be used? Is the power supply safe to keep, or should it be replaced because of its age? I'm looking for a reasonably priced system that can run World of Warcraft at high settings and improve Lightroom performance. I'm in the US and would prefer to stay around $750 or less if possible. I'm also considering a prebuilt or Steam Machine if that offers better value. Would buying used parts or a used PC be the most sensible route?

A sub-$750 build with all new parts can be difficult depending on graphics-card prices, especially if you want high settings and good Lightroom performance. A used gaming PC may offer much better value, provided you can verify the exact CPU, GPU, memory, storage, and power supply models and test it before buying. The unknown CPU and GPU model numbers would be useful if you want to know whether anything from the old system is worth keeping, but the existing motherboard and DDR3 RAM are effectively a dead-end for a modern upgrade.

The old SSDs may still be usable, but check their health and capacity before relying on them. Long-term storage age matters less than wear and failure indicators, so back up anything important and consider a new SSD for the operating system and applications. For your budget, compare a used or refurbished gaming desktop with a new parts list rather than assuming a specialized living-room machine will be cheaper.

The case should be perfectly reusableโ€”itโ€™s mostly just a metal enclosure, and standard modern components should fit. I would replace the power supply, though. If it has been sitting for more than a decade, its components are well past the age Iโ€™d trust, and that particular unit wasnโ€™t known as a premium model to begin with. The Hyper 212 might technically work with some newer, lower-power CPUs, but youโ€™d need the correct mounting hardware. A modern cooler such as a Thermalright Phantom Spirit is inexpensive, quieter, and generally a better choice. Aside from the case and possibly the SSDs, plan on replacing the motherboard, CPU, memory, graphics card, and PSU.

MellowCedar47: That makes sense. Iโ€™m open to buying used if a complete system or a few parts would give me better performance for the money.
