Which Processor Should I Go For: 9800x3D, 7800x3D, or 9600X?

I'm really torn between a few CPUs right now. I was almost set on the 9800x3D, but I noticed the 7800x3D is on sale at my local store here in Mexico. I've also come across some YouTube comparisons that suggest the 9600X performs similarly to the 9800x3D, but I'm not sure how accurate that is. Since I always want the latest and greatest components, cost isn't a huge issue, but I don't want to throw money away either.

For gaming at 1440p, many lower-end CPUs can keep up with the higher-end ones, especially if you're using features like DLSS or playing less demanding games. However, if you're in a CPU-heavy game or operating at a lower resolution like 1080p, you'll definitely want a stronger CPU. Both the 9700X and the 7800X3D perform similarly, and in many cases, they're on par with the 9800X3D at 1440p, making them great choices. I'd personally opt for one of those over a Ryzen 5 simply for the extra cores and threads.

If the 9600X is showing similar performance to the 9800X3D in a specific test, it's likely because the GPU was the bottleneck during that comparison, especially at 4K. It’s a different story at 1080p or 1440p, particularly in CPU-heavy games where you’ll notice the differences more.

The decision comes down to several factors, including price and what you're gaming on. If you're playing at lower resolutions and notice you're CPU-bound, then more L3 cache can help, but if your GPU is the weak link, it might make sense to take the cheaper option and consider upgrading later.
