I'm a student who's been learning Python since 2024, and I'm currently working on a school project to create a video game. The game will start with a storyline, but after that, I want it to become more of a free-play experience where players can roam around and interact with the world. I'm considering both Pygame and Pyglet, but I could use some recommendations. What game engine would you suggest for my project? Or is there another engine that's better suited for a game like this?

I'd recommend using Pygame! It’s great for making top-down 2D open world games, and you can add a lot of exploration elements. If you're interested, check out pygame-ce, which is a community-forked version that's supposed to be even better.

Absolutely, pygame-ce is definitely worth looking into because it has more features and flexibility!

Pygame is a solid choice; there's also free resources like a book on making games with it available online—definitely check it out!
