I'm finishing a new gaming build and currently have a GTX 1060 3GB. I'm considering three graphics cards, with taxes and shipping included: an RX 9070 GRE for $650, an RX 9070 for $850, or an RX 9070 XT for $1,090. The GRE and standard 9070 would require international shipping, while the XT is available locally. I mainly want to play newer games that my current GPU can't handle. Ray tracing isn't important to me, and I'm fine lowering some settings if needed. Which option would you choose for the best balance of performance, longevity, and price?

Before deciding, make sure the prices include any import fees and that international warranty support won’t be a problem. Since your current card is a GTX 1060 3GB, even the GRE will feel like a massive upgrade. The cheapest option is probably enough unless you already know you want high-refresh-rate 1440p gaming.
The RX 9070 GRE looks like the strongest value at these prices. It should be more than capable for 1440p gaming, and you can use quality upscaling or reduce a few settings if a demanding game needs it. The standard 9070 is a reasonable middle ground, but the price increase is pretty large compared with the performance difference.
At $1,090, the XT seems difficult to justify unless the local warranty and availability make it significantly safer to buy. The performance gap over the regular 9070 is usually around 15–20%, while the price premium is much higher and power consumption also increases. I’d either take the GRE for maximum value or the standard 9070 for a better balance of performance and VRAM.
I’d lean toward the standard RX 9070. All three would be a huge upgrade from a GTX 1060, but the 9070 gives you 16GB of VRAM and better long-term headroom than the GRE without costing as much as the XT. The XT’s extra performance probably isn’t worth paying $240 more unless you specifically want the highest frame rates or plan to keep the card for many years.

The 12GB on the GRE should still be fine for most 1440p games today, but 16GB is more reassuring for future releases and demanding titles. I’ve only seen 12GB become a real limitation in particularly heavy games using ultra settings.
