Which SSD Should I Choose: Samsung 9100 PRO or 990 PRO?

I'm considering an upgrade to my system's storage and need some advice on whether to go for the Samsung 9100 PRO 2TB (PCIe 5.0) or the Samsung 990 PRO 2TB (PCIe 4.0). I already have a Samsung 990 PRO 1TB installed on my Gigabyte AORUS X870 Elite WiFi 7 motherboard, and I'm mainly looking to increase storage rather than needing a performance upgrade. At BestBuy, the 9100 is listed for about $319.99 CAD (with heatsink) while the 990 is around $390 to $400 CAD. Would it make sense to get the cheaper 9100 and use its heatsink, or is the 990 worth the extra cost?

I wouldn't spend more for the 990 if you're looking at the 9100. Unless you really need the 990's performance, the 9100 is definitely the better deal. You can find decent mid-range drives for about $250 that might also work for your needs. Just a heads up, if you choose the 9100, put it in the top M.2 slot since the lower slots are covered by a big heatsink.

Thanks for the insight! I appreciate the suggestion on slots since I didn't know that. I want something that’ll perform well enough for gaming, but I'm not a hardcore user.
