Which Stable, Customizable Linux Distro Is Best for Gaming and Emulation?

I'm ready to move away from Windows and want to choose a Linux distribution that suits my setup: a B550 motherboard, 16GB of DDR4 memory, and a GTX 1060 with 3GB of VRAM. My main priorities are gaming and emulation. I'd prefer a mutable system rather than an immutable one, and I don't want a rolling-release distribution. I'd also like a desktop environment that offers plenty of customization so I can create my own rice. I'm currently considering Pop!_OS, Linux Mint Cinnamon, Fedora 44 KDE, Kubuntu, and Zorin OS. Which would you recommend?

Kubuntu is probably the best fit from your list if you want KDE customization with a more familiar, stable Ubuntu-based foundation. Itโ€™s a solid option for gaming and emulation without the maintenance style of a rolling release.

MellowBirch42: Iโ€™ll try Kubuntu as wellโ€”thanks for the suggestion!

Fedora KDE is especially appealing if customizing your desktop is a major priority. KDE is flexible enough for extensive theming and layout changes, while Fedora makes a good everyday system for gaming, emulation, and general use.

Fedora KDE would be a strong choice here. It gives you a regular release model, a mutable system, and KDE offers a huge amount of room for customization. It should also work well as a general-purpose gaming and daily-use desktop. If you end up disliking it, switching to another option is fairly painless.

MellowBirch42: Fedora seems to be the option people recommend most, so Iโ€™m going to give it a try. Thanks!
