I'm playing Fortnite competitively at 1080p with an RTX 3080, an i7-14700F, and 40GB of RAM. I usually get around 160–180 FPS, but the frame rate drops frequently. I was expecting closer to 240–260 FPS with this hardware. What could be causing the low FPS and stuttering?

Are you playing at 1080p, 1440p, or 4K? Resolution and graphics settings make a big difference when comparing FPS results.
Fortnite performance can change a lot between game updates because of Unreal Engine optimizations, but 160–180 FPS at 1080p on this hardware still deserves some troubleshooting. Check whether you’re using Performance Mode, verify that your monitor’s refresh rate and the game’s FPS limit are configured correctly, and monitor CPU/GPU usage, temperatures, and clock speeds while playing. Also make sure XMP is enabled and that background programs aren’t consuming resources.
That system shouldn’t automatically need an upgrade just to reach higher FPS. Fortnite can be especially CPU- and memory-sensitive, so the exact settings matter more than the graphics card alone. Try lowering view distance and effects, testing Performance Mode, updating chipset and GPU drivers, and checking for thermal or power-limit throttling before considering a platform change.

I’m playing at 1080p.
