Why am I seeing random Meta-powered ads outside of apps?

For the past two days, ads labeled as powered by Meta have been appearing randomly on my phone screen, even when no app is open. A phone scan didn't find any viruses. What could be causing these pop-ups, and how can I stop them?

Try restarting the phone in Safe Mode. If the ads stop there, a third-party app is almost certainly causing them. Uninstall recently added apps one at a time, especially cleaners, launchers, wallpapers, games, or unofficial downloads. You can also run Google Play Protect and clear unwanted browser notifications.

This is usually caused by an app with permission to display over other apps, adware, or a website that was allowed to send notifications. The Meta branding doesn’t necessarily mean the Meta app is responsible. Check recently installed apps, remove anything suspicious, and review your browser notification permissions. On Android, also check Settings > Apps > Special app access > Display over other apps and disable that permission for anything you don’t recognize.
