Why am I seeing “unusual traffic” messages when I Google something?

I've been running into this weird issue where Google keeps saying "our systems have detected unusual traffic" and it's making me complete a reCAPTCHA. This has happened at least 5-6 times over the last two days. Should I be concerned about possible malware or something similar? I'm using an HP laptop with Windows 11.

Have you checked if you're using a VPN, proxy, or iCloud Private Relay? These can sometimes result in traffic being routed through servers where your data gets mixed with others, triggering those messages. It could also mean one of your devices on the network is compromised and sending out automated traffic to Google.

What's the best way to scan for this compromised device?

It's not likely a malware issue on your end. This usually happens when someone else sharing your IP address is engaging in suspicious activities. You could either wait it out, or contact your ISP and ask for a new IP address.
