Why am I struggling to run Borderlands 4 on high graphics settings?

I'm having trouble running Borderlands 4 on max graphics settings, even though I have decent specs. My FPS is mostly between 60-70, but it drops to 45 FPS during combat. Here's what I'm working with: a 12th Gen Intel i5-12400 CPU, 48 GB of RAM, a B660 Pro RS motherboard, and an AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT. My in-game settings are mostly high, but the shadows and lighting quality are set to medium, and I'm using FSR. I put a lot of money into this build, and it should be capable of handling max graphics. Any advice?

Just a note: while your 12th Gen Intel CPU is great, it might struggle with some of today's heavy games in 2025. Youโre also under a resolution of 1920x1080, which shouldnโt be too taxing, but the game seems to be causing its own problems. Consider running benchmarks with programs like 3D Mark to compare performance against others with similar setups.

It's pretty common for games built on Unreal Engine 5 to underperform. If your settings are correct, it may just be the game itself. Even high-end systems struggle to maintain solid performance. It looks like your setup is decent, but Borderlands 4 has specific issues.

Honestly, everyone seems to be having performance issues with this game. It's just not well-optimized, and no amount of hardware will make it run perfectly. Check out the reviews; you'll see a lot of players are frustrated with how it runs.

Have you checked your CPU and GPU usage while playing? Itโs essential to see if one is bottlenecking the other. Some players have noticed their CPU spikes up to 80-95% usage during gameplay, which could affect performance.

You might be hitting a wall with your GPU since itโs a mid-range card. Borderlands 4 is optimized for higher-end hardware, so that's a factor. More significant GPUs, like the RTX 8090Ti, perform better here. It's not just you; this game has been criticized for poor optimization overall.
