Why Are All My PC Games Lagging?

I'm having a frustrating issue where every video game I try to play on my PC keeps lagging. This happens with games on both Steam and Epic Games, whether they're modded or not. I can't even get through the intro logos without experiencing significant lag, with frame rates dropping to around 5fps. My PC specs are pretty decent with a 7900xtx GPU, Ryzen 7 9800x3D CPU, 32GB of G.Skill DDR5 RAM, and a 1TB 980 SSD. Everything should be running smoothly! The last major thing I did before the lag started was restart and update my Windows 11, but I'm unsure if that caused the issue. My drivers also seem to be up to date. Any ideas on what might be causing this?

First off, make sure your monitor is connected directly to your GPU, not the motherboard's output. It sounds basic, but you'd be surprised how often that can cause problems. If that's not it, double-check your system BIOS settings and ensure that nothing got messed up in recent updates.

Yeah, I just plugged mine in right to the GPU after realizing I had it connected wrong. Made a huge difference!

You might also want to check for malware. Try doing a system scan to ensure your computer is clean. I had a similar issue once, and it turned out to be some unwanted software hogging resources. Also, consider deleting and redownloading Steam if you haven't tried that yet; sometimes that can help with lag issues too.

I've already done a system scan, and it came back clean. Also, I redownloaded Steam and the lag is still there. So frustrating!
