Why Are My Download Speeds So Slow Even With 1Gb Internet?

I recently upgraded to 1Gb internet, expecting to see a major boost in my download speeds. However, I'm finding that whether I'm downloading from platforms like Battle.net, Steam, or Epic Games, my speeds seem to cap around 12 Mbps. Although my network speeds for both download and upload tests are generally fast, it appears that during downloads, Task Manager indicates that I'm using 100% of my bandwidth. I'm seeing about 94.6 Mbps allocated to the update agent during these times. Is there something I'm missing or doing wrong?

It sounds like you're running into a couple of different potential issues. First, when you say 100% of the network is used, are you checking this in Task Manager? That's a helpful indicator. Also, have you verified that you're actually getting the full gigabit speed you're paying for? There are speed test websites that can give you a decent idea of your actual speed.

Also, could you clarify if the 12 Mbps you're seeing is measured in megabits (Mbps) or megabytes (MB/s)? They are quite different!

Yeah, definitely check your speeds against what your provider promises. Sometimes they advertise speeds that are only under perfect conditions. You might also want to consider if there are other devices hogging bandwidth during your downloads.

Are you connected via wired or wireless? If it's wired, check if your Ethernet cable is outdated or damaged; sometimes, that can limit speeds to around 100 Mbps. If you're on wireless, being far from the router or on a 2.4 GHz connection usually doesn't provide the best speeds either.
