Why aren’t my Sway window gaps appearing?

I'm setting up my first Sway desktop on Arch Linux. Sway itself works, and other changes in my copied configuration file take effect, but the window gaps I added don't seem to work. I tried:

#gaps
gaps inner 8px
gaps outer 4px

I expected to see space between tiled windows and around the screen edges, with the desktop wallpaper visible through the gaps. What could be wrong?

The configuration is probably being read, since your other changes work, but try removing the `px` suffix. Sway’s gaps syntax normally uses plain numbers:

`gaps inner 8`
`gaps outer 4`

Make sure these lines are in the active `~/.config/sway/config`, then reload Sway with `$mod+Shift+c` or restart it. Also, gaps only reveal whatever is behind the windows, so you’ll need a working wallpaper process such as `swaybg` if you want to see your wallpaper there.

I copied the default config and other changes are taking effect, so I’ll try the values without `px` and check that my wallpaper is being started by the config.
