I'm having an issue where my friends can hear not just their own voices, but also the game audio and music when I'm on calls through apps like Discord or WhatsApp Desktop, and even in games like The Forest. I tried lowering the microphone input level a lot, but while it did reduce my voice, they still reported hearing everything else clearly. I'm using my laptop's built-in microphone and have set things up through Voicemeeter, but the problem occurred even before I started using Voicemeeter. Could this be a software issue?

I do agree with the headset suggestion, but if you're checking with an external mic in the future, be aware that if it’s positioned too close to your speakers, you could still have similar issues. Would be good to test that out when you can afford one!
The quickest fix is to get a proper microphone and some headphones or a complete headset with a mic. This should help reduce the echo and background sounds significantly.
