Why Can’t I Use My Lightning to HDMI Adapter for Netflix and Amazon Prime?

I'm looking for a good HDMI adapter for my family member so they can watch streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime on their TV using their iPhone. I bought the official Apple adapter a couple of years ago, but it didn't allow access to those apps. I've got a USB-C adapter that works perfectly fine, letting me stream whatever I want. Can anyone explain why the Apple adapter didn't work for those services?

It sounds like the adapter exists, but the streaming apps you want to use probably don’t allow external display. Most streaming services have restrictions to prevent screen mirroring through adapters, which is likely why your Apple one didn’t work for Netflix or Amazon Prime.

You can find other HDMI adapters, but beware that many apps will block streaming through them. It's a common issue with all sorts of adapters.

Instead of fussing with adapters, you might consider getting them a streaming device like a Fire Stick, Google TV, or Apple TV. They’re great for travel and easy to set up. Plus, they work smoothly with most streaming services.
