Why Did My Videos Suddenly Lose Quality on Windows 11?

I recently tried to watch some old videos on my PC, and I was shocked to find that many of them have lost their original quality. They've been downgraded to a much lower resolution. Interestingly, some videos in the same folder are perfectly fine, but others are just a blurry mess now. What on earth could have caused this? Additionally, how can I prevent this from happening in the future? I have some really special videos, and I need to make sure they stay safe and preserved.

Videos don't compress by themselves, so something must have caused the change in resolution. It’s possible that some video encoding software on your PC automatically altered them without you realizing it. For future safety, always keep backups of your important files.
