Why Do I Experience Packet Loss When FPS Is Above 60?

I've run into a peculiar issue while gaming. Whenever my frames per second (FPS) exceed 60 in certain games like Valorant or Fortnite, I suddenly experience severe packet loss and high ping, especially when I move my mouse. Interestingly, my ping returns to normal if I stop moving the mouse. I've tried several fixes, such as lowering the polling rate on my mouse, switching mice, and even updating my BIOS and drivers. The only solution that actually worked was connecting to a mobile hotspot, where I can move my mouse without any issues at uncapped FPS. I've searched around, but it seems like I'm not the only one with this problem, yet I can't find anyone discussing how they resolved it.

Yeah, definitely sounds like a network problem. How are you connected to the internet—using Ethernet or Wi-Fi? A wired connection usually provides better stability and could help eliminate the packet loss you're seeing.

If you’re on Ethernet and still getting packet loss, it might be worth checking if there are any background apps using up bandwidth. Also, sometimes updating your router's firmware can help with strange issues like these.

Hey! It sounds like you might have a network issue since the hotspot works fine for you. What's your upload speed like? Sometimes low upload speeds can lead to packet loss when your games are communicating a lot over the internet.

My upload speed is around 40 megabits per second.
