Why do my headphones sound distant and muffled?

I recently plugged my headphones into my phone, and I'm noticing that the sound feels really off. When I watch videos on YouTube, everything sounds weird, almost like the audio is distorted. It's especially noticeable because I can hear the music and sound effects, but the dialogue sounds distant and muffled. I'm not sure what's causing this, and I'm wondering if I need to replace the headphone cable or if there's something I can try to fix it.

It sounds like your headphone jack might need a little cleaning. Often, this problem occurs when the metal part of the plug isn’t making good contact in the port. Just give it a good clean, and that may solve the problem!
