Why do my Windows applications keep losing focus?

I'm experiencing an issue where my Windows applications constantly lose focus and switch to other background apps, then revert back on their own. This happens frequently while I'm trying to use certain apps. I doubt I have a virus. What could be causing this?

GamerDude101: I just launched Paint and noticed my mouse clicks are fully responding. It might actually be an issue with the mouse itself.
