Why does computer audio sound terrible through my USB audio interface?

I'm using a Fender Link I/O audio interface with a drum kit and a Windows 11 laptop. The drums themselves sound clear, but any audio played from the computer sounds awful when I connect my headphones to the interface's headphone output. I've checked that the drivers are up to date, but the problem hasn't changed. What settings or troubleshooting steps should I try?

Since the drums sound fine, the interface and headphones are probably working, and the issue may be with Windows playback configuration. Make sure the Fender Link I/O is selected as the computer’s output device, and check that Windows and any audio software are using the same sample rate and bit depth. If the problem continues, reinstall the interface’s official driver or test a different USB port and cable. The exact model and driver version matter for more specific advice.
