That isn’t typical, but it can happen. SSD endurance ratings are estimates, and failures can result from the flash memory, controller, firmware, or other hardware—not just the total amount written. Check the exact model and its official specifications before comparing it with general 512GB drive estimates.
Cooling and controller reliability matter too. The NAND chips might theoretically have life left, but an overheating or failing controller can still make the entire SSD unusable. The exact model, temperature history, SMART attributes, and a screenshot of the health details would help determine what happened.
The TBW rating depends heavily on the brand and model. Some budget or counterfeit 512GB drives may be rated near 100TBW, while better models can be rated for several hundred TBW. Look up the manufacturer’s datasheet to find the actual endurance rating for your drive.
