Why does my HDR turn off and colors look weird in fullscreen mode?

I'm experiencing an issue where whenever I switch to fullscreen mode in certain applications, my monitor goes black for about three seconds, and the overall brightness and color of my games seem off. After I close the game or press the Windows key, it looks like my monitor's HDR settings have been messed up, leading to dull colors and low light visibility. I've found that switching to borderless fullscreen resolves the issue, but some games don't support that option. Despite trying various fixes, I haven't been able to solve the problem completely. Additionally, I've noticed that taking screenshots or recording videos temporarily brightens the screen, which might be connected. Can anyone suggest what I should do? Thanks!

You might want to try disabling HDR in your Windows settings and see if the game controls it better. Weirdly, some games get buggy and keep HDR turned on even when they're closed. If that keeps happening, you might need to restart your PC, but it's a hassle. This could solve those weird color shifts when going fullscreen!

Yeah, I've experienced HDR issues too. Sometimes it works seamlessly, but other times, Windows just sticks with whatever mode it was in when exiting a game.

I had that issue even with HDR off; the screen would still flash black when switching modes. Definitely a strange bug.

It sounds like there might be a compatibility issue with HDR in the specific games you're playing. A possible fix could be to ensure that the game is HDR-compatible. When you use borderless mode, Windows might be managing HDR settings better for you. Some games have problematic HDR implementations, so they might not handle fullscreen well. It's a frustrating issue, but definitely worth checking the game settings!

Totally agree! Some games have wonky HDR support. I had a similar issue with a game where using borderless seemed to fix the color problems.
