I use an iPad for sheet music and leave it on my piano stand. If I know I won't use it for a few days, I shut it down manually to save battery. Every so often, after sitting untouched for multiple days, it suddenly shows the Apple logo and ends up at the lock screen, even though nobody is near it and it hasn't been plugged in or connected to any accessories. It has a thin clear case and a metal disc on the back for mounting, but the disc isn't magnetic. The behavior isn't causing any real problems, but I'm curious what could be making the iPad start up on its own.

iPads don’t normally have a user-facing schedule for automatically powering on or shutting down, so the case and mounting setup are worth checking. Still, a thin case and a nonmagnetic metal disc are unlikely to press the power button or trigger anything, especially if the iPad is left in landscape orientation.
It could be worth checking the battery condition, available storage, and whether the system is fully updated. A failing battery or a crash followed by an automatic restart can sometimes look like the device powered itself on.
The timing sounds a lot like the operating system’s Inactivity Timeout behavior, which can restart some devices after roughly three days without activity. That feature is generally associated with a device being locked or inactive rather than fully shut down, so it may not perfectly explain this situation, but it’s the closest match to the repeated multi-day pattern. If the iPad wasn’t actually completely powered off, it may have restarted itself and then shown the lock screen.
That seems like the most plausible explanation so far. I’m not completely sure it applies after a full shutdown, but the timing and the way it boots to the lock screen sound very similar, so I’ll treat that as the likely cause unless it starts happening more frequently.
The iPad has plenty of free storage and is running iPadOS 26.5. It was bought new a few years ago and only used regularly for about a year, so I’m not convinced the battery is the cause, but I’ll keep it in mind.
