Why Does My iPhone 15 Pro Max Shut Down With Battery Still Remaining?

My iPhone 15 Pro Max suddenly shuts off even when the battery indicator doesn't show that it's nearly empty. The battery was replaced about two months ago, and the service history lists it as "Used," although Battery Health still shows 100%. When I connect a charger, the phone powers back on, reports a low battery level, and then appears to charge unusually quickly. I don't know which brand was installed or whether it's a genuine Apple battery, and the repair shop's warranty has already expired. What could be causing this, and what should I do next?

Do you know what brand of battery was installed and whether it was genuine? That information can help narrow it down, but if the repair shop can’t provide it, that’s another reason to have the phone checked by a trusted technician. Avoid continuing to use it if the battery is swelling, getting unusually hot, or behaving erratically.

This sounds most likely like a defective, worn-out, or poorly installed replacement battery. The 100% Battery Health reading doesn’t necessarily prove that the battery is good—it may only reflect the capacity the phone recognizes, especially if the part is used or not genuine. Have an Apple Store or reputable repair shop run proper battery and hardware diagnostics, and ask them to inspect the battery connection and power-management components.
