Why does my laptop lose internet while every other device stays connected?

My laptop's Wi-Fi occasionally shows no internet, even though phones and other devices on the same network continue working normally. Is this likely a laptop-specific issue, and what troubleshooting steps should I try to identify and fix it?

First, check exactly what happens when the problem occurs. If the laptop still says itโs connected to Wi-Fi but shows โNo internet,โ open Command Prompt and run `ipconfig /release`, followed by `ipconfig /renew`. If Wi-Fi disconnects completely, the problem may be the adapter, signal, or its drivers instead.

On Windows, open Device Manager, expand Network adapters, and open the properties for your wireless adapter. Under Power Management, disable โAllow the computer to turn off this device to save power.โ Also install the latest Wi-Fi driver from the laptop manufacturerโs support page rather than relying only on the generic Windows driver. Power-saving settings and unstable drivers can cause this exact laptop-only behavior.

A router restart is worth trying, but since your other devices remain online, the router or internet provider is less likely to be the cause. If it keeps happening, collect more details such as the laptop and router models, whether you use an extender, and whether the laptop is connected but offline or loses the Wi-Fi connection entirely. You can also check Event Viewer under Windows Logs > System for errors recorded around the time of the disconnect.

MellowCedar42: That makes sense since it seems to happen more often when the laptop is running on battery. Iโll check the power setting and driver first.
