Whenever I plug in my headphones, my laptop's built-in microphone completely stops picking up any sound. I've tried searching for answers online, and the only solution that worked temporarily was restoring the system. Unfortunately, the problem reappears the next day. Is there a more permanent fix for this issue?

If your headphones lack a mic, that’s odd! Normally, plugging in a device shouldn't affect the built-in mic. Make sure your audio settings are configured properly and see if you can lock the input to the onboard mic when the headphones are connected.
It sounds like your system might be automatically switching the input from the built-in mic to whatever is plugged into the audio jack. If your headphones don’t have a mic, you should be able to manually select the built-in microphone as your input device instead.

+1 for using "auto-magically"! If your headset has a mic, it seems like the system is switching to the combined headset-speakers-plus-mic.
