Why does my new 34-inch ultrawide monitor look stretched on Windows 11?

I bought a 34-inch Acer curved monitor, but the picture looks stretched and the proportions seem wrong. I'm using Windows 11 and currently the highest resolution available is 1920×1080, which Windows marks as recommended. I have an NVIDIA RTX 3060 with up-to-date drivers. What should I check to get the monitor displaying correctly?

You could remove the display driver from Device Manager, select the option to delete the driver files, and then restart the computer so Windows can detect the display again. After that, reinstall the latest driver from NVIDIA. It’s also worth checking the monitor’s own input and aspect-ratio settings, since options like Stretch, Zoom, or 16:9 mode can make an ultrawide image look distorted.

A 34-inch ultrawide normally has a much wider native resolution, often 2560×1080 or 3440×1440. If Windows only offers 1920×1080, it probably isn’t detecting the monitor correctly. Check the monitor’s exact model and native resolution, then look in Windows Settings > System > Display > Display resolution. You can also try selecting the monitor in NVIDIA Control Panel and choosing the PC-resolution section rather than the TV-resolution section.

I’m using an RTX 3060 and the drivers are already current, but 1920×1080 is still the highest option Windows shows as recommended.

Check the connection before reinstalling anything. Use DisplayPort if possible, or make sure the HDMI cable and port support the monitor’s full ultrawide resolution and refresh rate. Some older HDMI cables, adapters, docks, or motherboard ports can limit the available resolutions. Also confirm the cable is plugged into the RTX 3060 rather than the motherboard video output.
